FILIP AT THE GRANDHOTEL

Calendar Event: Pupp!

Even Filip, a marketing strategist and brands lover, wants to arrive in Karlovy Vary on time. Thursday
afternoon is therefore blocked in the calendar by the "trip to Pupp" event. He sets off together with his
friend Karolína and Gandi, a cute maltipoo that they look after for friends.

He has a travel bag full of special holiday clothes and slightly extravagant outfits. Where else but in Pupp
should he take them out? The two-hour journey from Prague flies by like nothing. As soon as the door to
Karlovy Vary hotel room closes behind Filip, he unpacks the entire carefully selected contents of the
suitcase. Luggage must remain completely empty, this is Filip's travel rule.

One drink at the bar, the other in the room

Dinner in Malá dvorana lobby bar is preceded by three sauna cycles in the spa. Because, according to
Filip, you must rest on the day of arrival.

He orders a strong beef broth for dinner and a glass of Scotch whiskey. He takes one extra glass with him
to his room to help him sleep better. Before going to sleep, he still closes the blackout curtains. He doesn't
want the sun to pull him out of his comfortable bed tomorrow sooner than he wishes.

There is no need to rush

Although it is light outside, Filip is still sleeping. He indulges in what he cannot do during a demanding work week. He gets out of bed at 9 o'clock, puts on a casual shirt and heads for breakfast. Karolína has already reserved his place there. There is nowhere to rush. He reserved almost the entire morning for the morning start, which he begins with black tea. During this time, he manages to taste almost everything from the salty and sweet menu. He also reads the weekend supplement of The New York Times.

Swedish massage and the sound of water

First on Friday's agenda is a massage. He and Karolína had booked it in advance. Because Filip is
exhausted from working at the computer, he chooses the intensive Swedish option.

After 90 delightful minutes, he decides to extend the time spent in the Zen spa. He wraps himself in a soft
white bathrobe, picks up his book Orlando by Virginia Woolf and grabs a sun lounger by the pool. He is absorbed not only by the story, but also by the soothing sound of falling water.

Mysterious underground drinks

Time passes differently in the spa than outside. Filip is heading straight from there to meet Karolína. Today they are not dining in Malá dvorana, but in the famous underground Becher's Bar. One of the best
bartenders in the world takes care of local drinks here.

During the evening, he mixes cocktails for the friends from a menu inspired by the natural elements: earth, fire, water and air. As a bourbon lover, Filip chooses a drink called Pole. Bourbon, vanilla and oat
milk. Other surprising combinations of flavors will keep the two friends here until late in the evening. Time passes differently here too.

The most beautiful railway line in the Czech Republic

On Saturday, Karlovy Vary comes alive thanks to the spa guests who come here for the weekend. On the
other hand, Filip and Karolína decide to take a trip outside the town: by train to the nearby Mariánské
Lázně.
The route, which is not even sixty kilometers long, was ranked among the 10 most beautiful routes in
Europe by the British newspaper The Guardian a few years ago. "I have long wanted to see this
picturesque route that leads through the hilly landscape along the Teplá river," says Filip about the trip together.

Pupp and crease

After their return from the trip, dinner takes place again at the hotel. And Filip puts on pants with
perfectly ironed creases. According to a legend, the pucks were created in Pupp when the English king
Edward VII was staying here.

"During a walk he soiled his trousers. He therefore took new ones from the local tailor, but the servants
did not have time to iron them. The local upper crust then interpreted the unironed trousers with creases as the latest English fashion and started to create creases on their trousers on purpose," Filip explains,
amused.

Hospitality up to the last minute

Even when it is Sunday, the day of departure, the beautiful experiences do not end. Filip is enjoying his last trip to the spa: "I love walking wrapped in a bathrobe down the corridor, where 19th century oil
paintings in golden frames hang around me. It's decadent and divine at the same time,” he smiles.

This just proves that you don't have to leave the Grandhotel immediately after the room is vacated. While Karolína works in the cafe, Filip walks with Gandi in the corridors, they follow the events in the lobby and observe the newly arriving guests from the garden in the middle of the square in front of the hotel. After all, Prague will wait for them, so there is no hurry.

Jaromír: We like to take turns between holidays in nature and in a beautiful hotel.

Karolína: My tea at five? Champagne and Pupp cake

Gandi: A room? Only with a view of the promenade.

Naďa: I want to feel relaxed even in a glamorous environment.
